Abstract:

Marie Solange Abimana, a girl from Nyabinoni Sector of Commune Nyakabanda in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how she learned of President Habyarimana's death and how Tutsis in her village were attacked by gangs from Ndiza and from Nyabikenke. The gang slashed or drowned any Tutsi they discovered; they also razed Tutsi crops. Marie Solange's mother was tied with other woman by the gang and drowned in the Nyabarongo River. She concludes by sharing the challenges that she faced after the genocide.
