1994 Rwandan genocide testimony by Francine Mukangamije
Francine Mukangamije, a girl from Cellule Ntwari, Cubi Sector of Commune Kayenzi in Gitarama Prefecture, escaped and hid with neighbors at the beginning of the genocide. Some of the people in her neighborhood hid in the bush while others hid in pits or in trees. She explains how some Tutsis were beaten to death with nail-studded clubs. Francine escaped to Commune Nyabikenke, where she hid in a pit, and then to Kigali, where she witnessed her father being killed. Afterwards Francine and her siblings sought refuge in Gitarama Prefecture; her siblings were all subsequently killed.
