1994 Rwandan genocide testimony by Micheline Twagirayezu

Testimony content:
Abstract:

Micheline Twagirayezu, a boy from Cellule Kamatongo, Mahembe Sector of Commune Mukingi in Gitarama Prefecture, narrates how his neighboring commune was attacked on April 24, 1994. Shortly afterwards, Tutsi refugees from Byimana passed through his neighborhood seeking refuge. Fear made his family hide in a banana farm even before his home was attacked. A neighbor found them and decided to hide them in his house, but they were eventually captured by the Interahamwe who accepted a bribe and let the family go without harming anyone. His family then decided to escape to Rugogwe, but were arrested by another gang that were going to kill them. Luckily, members of the presidential guard arrived and requested that the children be released. Micheline escaped to Kabgayi until RPF Inkotanyi saved them.
