Abstract:

J. B. Mukama, a boy from Cellule Masaka, Nyagasozi Sector of Commune Mukingi in Gitarama Prefecture, narrates how his village was attacked, property destroyed, and Tutsi livestock feasted on. Together with some of his family members, they hid in the bush and other days in banana farms. When the Interahamwe were looking for Tutsi hiding in the farms, they used dogs and would stone any Tutsi they found. In order to increase his chance of survival, J.B. would hide in the neighborhood and in homes around his neighborhood. He goes on to describe how some of the Tutsi refugees had to trade the clothes they wore for food.
