1994 Rwandan genocide testimony by Emmanuel Irimaso

Emmanuel Rubona Mbati Irimaso, a boy from Cellule Kabahazi, Ngoma Sector of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, provides a detailed explanation of how some of his relatives were killed during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. When the genocide began, Emmanuel was visiting his father in Musenyi. Impuzamugambi and Interahamwe attacks began in his neighborhood about one week after President Habyarimana's death. By April 18, 1994, Emmanuel was hidden by Christian civilians in the ceilings of their homes. Both Emmanuel and the people who were hiding him had to leave and hide in banana farms and trenches. Emmanuel also relates how his mother was arrested by people she knew, threatened with death, and forced to pay a 2000FRW bribe.
