Testimony content:
Abstract:

Francine Murakatete, a girl from Cellule Kigonana, Mbati Sector of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, was at Cyimicanga in Kigali city when the 1994 Rwandan Genocide started. Two days after the death of President Habyarimana, her family escaped to Saint Famille, a Catholic church where they found Tutsi men armed with spears ready to fight Interahamwe. Francine was later put with other orphans who were cared for by Catholic nuns; her mother, who was pregnant at the time, hid among old and sick women. All of the women and girls at Saint Famille were later taken to the nearby St. Paul's Catholic Church. They were rescued by RPF Inkotanyi soon after the move to St. Paul's.
