Abstract:

Immculèe Kayizere, a girl from Cellule Murahe, Mbati Sector of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, explains how the head of the MDR political party in Commune Mugina came to her home the day after President Habyarimana's death and threatened her family, alleging that Tutsi had killed the president. Her home was attacked on April 10, 1994; after the attack, her family sought refuge in a church. Immculèe witnessed male Tutsi being killed along a riverbank at the border of Mugina Commune and Kigali Ngali Prefecture. Immculèe was arrested by gangs on several occasions but was released each time. She and other Tutsi hid in the hillside and ate some foraged cassava from farm. Finally, she hid in a pit until she was rescued by RPF Inkotanyi.
