1994 Rwandan genocide testimony by Narcisse Munyanziza

Testimony content:
Abstract:

Narcisse Munyanziza, a boy from Cellule Rusebeya, Rwoga Sector of Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how his commune was attacked on April 20, 1994, by gangs of Interahamwe from Commune Mwendo in Kibuye Prefecture. The attacks were overseen by the bourgumestre of Masango, and homes belonging to Tutsi were set on fire. Most of the Tutsi in the area either sought refuge in Kabgayi or in Commune Murama. Together with three other children, Narcisse sought refuge at a civilian's house in Kigoma before continuing on to Bugogwe. On the way to Nyanza, Butare, the children were arrested by gangs who took away their clothing, shoes, and money. Narcisse completes his testimony by providing the names of his family members and people he knew who were killed, the places where they were killed, and how each was killed.
