Abstract:

Josiane Murekatete, a girl from Cellule Gasharu, Nyamirembe Sector of Commune Kayenzi in Gitarama Prefecture, tells how Tutsis were drowned and how people from her commune sought refuge at the Commune’s offices. Her family members hid in different homes, and her father was arrested while fleeing at Kabgayi. He was slashed with a machete but was taken to a hospital and survived. While escaping to safety, Josiane witnessed people that she knew being killed with grenades. Later, she escaped to Gisenyi before being rescued by RPF Inkotanyi.
