Abstract:
Goretti Nyiraminani, a girl from Rukandiro Sector of Commune Kigoma in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how genocidal killing started in her village on April 20, 1994. The military visited Tutsi homes and beat the men they found. Goretti was arrested and beaten but survived. Later, she hid in different homes and in a swamp before escaping to Gasoro where she stayed until she was rescued.
