Abstract:

Jonas Twagiramukiza, a boy from Cellule Nyamabuye, Gishyeshye Sector of Commune Taba in Gitarama Prefecture, explains how the advent of multi-party democracy intensified hatred against Tutsis in Rwanda.The bourgumestre of his commune was was one of the Interahamwe gang leaders. Jonas also describes how he was arrested by Interahamwe gangs on several occasions but was released. He escaped to Butamwa and then to Kimisagara. He followed other refugees into Zaire (present day Democratic Republic of the Congo).
