Abstract:

Azéla Nyiranshimyumukiza, a girl from Cellule Runyinya, Rubona Sector of Commune Kigoma in Gitarama Prefecture, tells how male Tutsis were initially targeted for extermination. However, before the killing started, gangs looted Tutsi property, destroyed crops, and slaughtered livestock. Azéla and her ill mother hid in many places, including millet and banana farms.
