Yvette Magera, a girl from Cellule Birambo, Rubona Sector of Commune Kigoma in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how her neighborhood was attacked one month after the death of president Habyarimana. People in her neighborhood initially fought back against the Interahamwe until the presidential guard came with machine guns and overpowered the civilians. Yvette escaped and hid in many places. She also witnessed people being chopped into pieces with machetes. She was liberated by RPF Inkotanyi and taken to Gitwe, then to Ruhango, and finally to Busoro.
