Abstract:

Jean Bosco Ntirenganya, a boy from Cellule Kamatongo, Mahembe Sector of Commune Mukingi in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how the first refugees to arrive in his neighborhood during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide were from Kigali. His neighborhood was attacked on April 24, 1994, by Interahamwe from Byimana, and his family hid in bushes. Jean Bosco was arrested, beaten, and robbed by Interahamwe. He witnessed policemen arresting and killing Tutsi men. Jean Bosco escaped to Kabgayi and hid with other Tutsis in the the organization TRAFIPRO's compound. He was ultimately rescued by Inkotanyi and taken to Byimana, Ruhango, and finally Bugesera.
