Testimony content:
Abstract:

Devothe Nyakubyara, a girl from Kiyonza Sector of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how her sector was attacked during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Armed gangs from Cyeru Sector and civilians, including Hutu, fought the gang unsuccessfully. While Tutsi homes were burning, Devothe was frightened and decided to flee to a Catholic church. One gang disconnected the church's water supply while another attacked and killed the refugees. Devothe survived the attack, although she sustained deep cuts on her head and back. She escaped to the bush with another injured child. Devothe was taken in by a civilian until she was ultimately saved by RPF Inkotanyi.
