Abstract:

Judith Kangabe, a girl from Kiyonza Sector of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how her neighborhood was attacked on April 8, 1994, by a gang armed with grenades. She fled to Mugina Parish, where the bourgumestre had ordered the gangs to cease killing. After the bourgumestre was killed, Judith hid in a farm near her home before returning to the parish. The parish was attacked again; after this attack, Judith was hidden in by a family friend who took her to Masango. In Masango, Judith became a domestic worker and hid in a banana farm. She was hiding in an empty house when she was rescued by RPF Inkotanyi.
