Abstract:

Beatha Uwampeta, a girl from Cellule Kabahazi of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how she became an orphan during an attack on her neighborhood on April 22, 1994. Her father and some of her relatives were drowned in a river by gangs. Beatha lists the names of her relatives who were killed in Commune Mugina and at Kabgayi and explains that she is traumatized whenever she recalls what she experienced during the Rwanda Genocide and that she rarerly discusses it. Before the genocide, her extended family included 142 people; Beatha and her sister were the only survivors. She concludes her testimony with a sorrowful poem.
