Abstract:

Marie Cahmei Uwiragiye, a girl from Cellule Gishari, Nteko Sector of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how she became an orphan and the challenges she faces after the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Her neighborhood was attacked on April 13, 1994, and she sought refuge in a church. After the church was attacked, she escaped to a banana farm. A major challenge for Marie Cahmei was finding food. On May 27, 1994, she escaped to Commune Runda where she stayed until she could return to her her home in May 1995 after the genocide ended.
