Abstract:

Jean Paul Nambaje, a boy from Cellule Rubona, Mbati Sector of Commune Mugina in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how Hutu men attacked homes in his neighborhood and either set them on fire or demolished them. Jean Paul escaped to Mugina Catholic Parish before seeking refuge at Kabgayi. Interahamwe armed with guns later attacked Kabgayi and killed many of the refugees. Soon after, RPF Inkotanyi arrived and engaged Interahamwe in a fierce gun battle. RPF Inkotanyi saved the refugees and took them to Ruhango, then to Ntongwe, and finally to Bugesera.
