Abstract:

Donatrie Uwababyeyi, a girl from of Cellule Buhanda, Nyakogo Sector of Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how the bourgumestre of Commune Masango witnessed Tutsis being killed. Some people in her neighborhood escaped to Masango, Murama, and Muyunzwe. Donatrie escaped to Byimana, but she was chased away and went to Kabgayi, where she was taken to a children's orphanage While in Kabgayi, she witnessed soldiers coming to take Tutsis away in busloads, then kill them. Catholic nuns later smuggled Donatrie and other children to Ruhango to increase their chances of survival. They stayed in Ruhango for close to a month before being taken to Rwabusoro and then to Nyamata.
