Abstract:

Elie Ndorimana, a boy from Cellule Bwerama, Nyakogo Sector of Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, provides names of his relatives that were killed during the genocide and describes how Tutsi refugees from Gikongoro and Kibuye prefectures started passing through his neighborhood in mid April 1994. Later, attackers came and razed houses in his neighborhood and Tutsi killed livestock. He escaped and sought shelter at Ruhango where he witnessed policemen arrest and torture some Tutsi. He states that many Tutsi were killed by Interahamwe, including children who were killed and thrown in pit latrines. He also explains that the Interahamwe militia described killing Tutsi as cleaning dirt from society and referred to Tutsis as snakes. He was saved by RPF Inkotanyi around Gitwe and taken to Ruhango.
