Testimony content:
Abstract:

Venuste Uwamungu, a boy from Cellule Rubina, Kabacuzi Sector of Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how he became an orphan after the 1994 Rwanda genocide. When the genocide started he was at an aunt's home in Kibuye near Lake Kivu. He recalls that the Bourgumestre of commune Masango wanted all Tutsi males to congregate at a river bank, telling that it was a common ploy to have Tutsis congregate before killing them and throwing their bodies in the river. He recalls Tutsi livestock being taken and slaughtered by genocide perpetrators. As the attacks intensified, he sought refuge at different homes of some of his relatives. He describes in graphic details how his parents and siblings were killed. After the genocide ended, helived with his only surviving aunt, although she was old and crippled and needed much attention. He concludes his testimony by describing the many challenges he is faced with in life including basic upkeep.
