Abstract:

Jeannette Nyinawumuntu, a girl from Cellule Buhanda, Nyakogo Sector of Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, provides a list of her relatives that were killed and describes how her neighborhood was first attacked on April 14, 1994. Prior, refugees from Gikongoro and Kibuye passed through her neighborhood going to Kabgayi. When her village was attacked, she separates from her parents while traveling to Kabgayi for refuge. She witnessed gangs being transported to attack Commune Murama. She returned to her neighborhood and hid in millet farms and in bushes until she was arrested. Jeannette tells that the gang wanted to kill her, but she was released. She continued hiding until she was saved by RPF Inkotanyi and taken to Gitwe, then to Ruhango before being taken to Ririma in Bugesera where she reunited with her mother.
