Abstract:

Marie Chantal Umurerwa, a girl from Cellule Shamba, Nyakogo Sector of Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, lists some of the genocide survivors and victims that she knew. She describes how a gang first attacked her neighborhood slash Tutsi livestock with machetes, slaughtering the cows, and looting homes. She hid in a thicket and a millet farm, but was later arrested and beaten, resulting in a fractured arm. She also describes witnessing people being killed. After the RPF Inkontanyi saved her and other refugees, they were taken to Kibungo where she stayed until 1995.
