Janvier Kanimba, a girl from Buhanda Cellule, Nyakogo Sector of Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how her home was attacked on April 20, 1994 and she sought refuge at Byimana before hiding at Kabgayi where refugees were divided into four groups. She was in a group that went to an institution where the cooperative society, TRAFIPRO used to operate from. Kabgayi's Catholic priest, Father Nsengiyumva Thadée warned the refugees that they were going to be killed, and the following day Interahamwe and government soldier rounded up busloads of refugees and executed them. These men returned on subsequent days and at first took away famous Tutsis, educated Tutis, and wealthy Tutis, then began capturing any person they came across. Janvier was saved by RPF Inkotanyi in the morning hours of June 2, 1994 and taken to Ruhango, Kimazi, Busoro, Rwabusoro before ending up in Gashora.
