The Interahamwe were constantly looking for them and they had to sneak around to get food and spent most of the time trying to find shelter from the rain. She also describes how she found out that her father was killed at Kabgayi and where her mother and older sister were hiding. After being saved by RPF Inkotanyi in Ruhango, Jeanine was reunited with her mother and older sister. Upon returning home, they discovered that all of their property was stolen or destroyed.
