Abstract:

Sylivie Nikuze, a girl from Dusenyi Cellule, Rukina Sector, Commune Masango in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how genocide perpetrators led by a Mr. Geriroze seized, slaughtered, and feasted on her family cow that was only remaining with a week to calf. She sought refuge in her grandfather's house which was also sheltering other Tutsi. That house was latter attacked at night and she had to seek refuge in a banana farm. These genocide perpetrators killed Nikuze's two paternal uncles and her brother by drowning them in a river. Her other three brothers were killed by being thrown in a pit and stoned to death. Nikuze finalizes her testimony by describing how the 1994 Rwandan genocide left her family poor and is seeking restitution of 40.000FRW for her family cow that was seized, slaughtered and feasted on. She explains the challenges she faces in raising tuition to pay for her secondary school education and purchasing learning material including the challenges her handicapped mother has to endure to raise 5 children.
