Hélène Uwambajimana, a girl from Cellule Gaji, Nyamirembe Sector of Commune Kayenzi in Gitarama Prefecture, describes how gangs looted property before they started killing people during the genocide. Hélène tried to hide in many homes, but most people sent her away, claiming that they had nowhere to hide her. She finally sought refuge at her paternal aunt’s home, where a gang came to look for her.
